I spoke by phone with candidate Elizabeth (Libby) Glass yesterday. I asked Libby to send me an introductory statement to share with my readers and she promptly sent me the following:
My name is Elizabeth Glass, but please call me Libby. I am an engineering draftsman and designer and I love solving puzzles. One of my favorite quotes is a paraphrase of Augustine by John Wesley, “In essentials; Unity, In Non-essentials; Liberty, In ALL things; Love.” This quote inspired me to run for the 13th District of the City Council of Indianapolis. There is so much hatred in the world and in my district. It saddens me that I have lost friends and family members over petty differences. I want to help heal this community. I was born in Indianapolis and lived all but 1.5 years of my almost 36 in Indiana. I love this town and it breaks my heart to see its communities suffer as it has these past few years. We as neighbors should help each other and support each other, not tear each other down. We need to agree on the essentials, Respectfully debate on the non-essentials, but always give Grace to each other.
During the primary, I noticed that only one party was running a candidate for my district and I thought to myself, “Why aren’t the other two parties running a candidate? Shouldn’t a councilor have to run and fight (even just a little) to earn the seat?” Then I thought, “If not now, when? If not me, who?” So I am going to put up the fight. I may not win, but at least there will be a race and not just an automatic victory.
I hope to earn your support.
In all things; Love.
Libby Glass
We now have two candidates in the race. It appears that both candidates are running for office for the first time, so my neighbors and I don’t have much in the way of voting records or previous campaign statements to go on. We will have to make a choice on what the candidates say in this campaign.
I hope the candidates agree to hold Town Hall-style forums in which citizens can ask questions of the two candidates.
This could get interesting… stay tuned.
Libby sounds cool! I wish we had someone like her running for office in NYC (commie capital of America). Keep up the great work!
Great news Ken! Maybe she can come to the studio and you and Roberta could do an introductory video on her? Then we can circulate for questions and comments. You could do a town hall on Twitter Spaces, even a small one.
