The Indianapolis 13th District City Council Race Part 1
Why this Election is Important & What’s at Stake.
Political parties & ideologies are becoming quaint relics of the Pre-Covidian Era. Politics no longer offers hope for the future & promises to improve the lives of citizens. Instead, politicians use fear-porn to scare anxious citizens into giving the politicians power & that raw power is used to crush the citizens, creating more anxiety. Our economy and government has been circling the drain in this vicious cycle to the point where we find ourselves on the cusp of a new feudal age, sorted into a hierarchy of castes;
Billionaire oligarchs,
Their servants, the politicians, the professional, managerial class (the laptop class) propagandists & enforcers.
The Deplorables (serfs).
During the last three years, our elected officials stopped acting like public servants and became tyrants. Instead of asking citizens about their concerns, politicians browbeat us with their own concerns that had little or no effect on the lives of most citizens. Increasingly, the politicians at the state and national level are insulated from electoral blowback because they need answer only to their donors.
However, on the local level, politicians are still vulnerable to citizen dissatisfaction. That’s what happened the incumbent for District 13, Zach Adamson. So confident of victory, Zach Adamson thought he would easily win the Democratic primary. Adamson, the Vice President of the City Council allowed himself to be out-hustled by his opponent, Democratic Socialist Jesse Brown. The Indianapolis GOP could have picked up 13th District seat, but failed to field a candidate. The Republican Party, once dominant in Indianapolis politics seem to be giving up without a fight.
The City Council level of politics is very retail compared to other, more lofty political offices. District voters want the potholes fixed and crime reduced. They are not easily brushed aside while their council members tilt at social issue windmills.
Jesse Brown, a self-described Marxist (read “Meet Jesse Brown, Marxist Indianapolis City Council Member-Elect) will likely follow the path of fellow Democratic Socialist member U.S. Congress Member Alexandria Ocasio Cortez who also won an upset victory over an entrenched, establishment Democrat. Brown, in answer to my queries on Twitter showed a predilection for explaining and arguing his thoughts, ideas, ideology, his experiences and concerns rather than listening to his future constituents’ concerns. I’m not saying Mr. Brown’s thoughts and concerns are without merit or that Mr. Brown isn’t a nice person (he is), it’s that I expect my representative on the city council to listen… really listen to my concerns and my neighbors’ concerns.
Since my last post about the IndyCCD13 election, a new candidate has emerged. I do not enough information about this candidate for a Substack post, but I’m working on it. Stay tuned!
