You, no doubt have heard the latest QAnon rumor circulating on Elon Musk’s dark web that a liberal in good standing may sometimes harbor racist thoughts. The purveyors of this astonishingly unscientific assertion claim these impure thoughts and impulses lurk deep in the recesses of liberal minds awaiting an opportunity to emerge into the light of day. The intelligence community has identified the “Racist Liberal Hoax” as harmful Russian disinformation. Moreover, the laughable claim that liberals could be racist is an easily provable fallacy. The following three cases debunk once and for all the myth of liberal racism.
Case 1: In 2017, an advertisement appeared in The Urban Times, an Indianapolis community newspaper. The text of the ad reads as follows:
“Real estate prophets said build here, so the people came and they built. and all was good in the kingdom…. it was once an unseemly place filled with unholy habitats and vice lords. thusly people banded with bureaucrats and rebranding oracles who ordained Dodge City be henceforth and forever known as Fall Creek Place. with blessing of the banks, broker and bureaucrats ZMC urban homes began building new homes for the blessed who believed urban living could be holy, hip, righteous and upscale. people flocked downtown and ZMC built mightily, and a new order of peace and prosperity spend across from Goose the Market, where kingdoms start at $636,000. only four left.”
A few people were foolish enough to think this ode to the modern miracle of gentrification was somehow insensitive or something. Nothing could be further from the truth as the author of the ad, realty-star Kurt Flock explained on camera:
It is clear from this overblown kerfuffle that Mr. Flock was/is not or will ever be a racist. He is in fact a liberal with an impeccable, progressive record. Mr. Flock is a extremely successful entrepreneur who reached epic heights surfing the gentrification wave in Indianapolis that unfortunately swept historic black neighborhoods off the map, scattering residents to the four winds… who would deny him an opportunity to dance his rhetorical victory jig using a few harmless tropes and stereotypes? If you are like the 664 confused individuals who signed an online petition denouncing the ad and disparaging Mr. Flock, I suggest you search inside your own heart for the rotting stump of stinking racism that I’m certain is festering inside you.
Case 2: Democrat Party candidate for Indianapolis City Council District 13 Jesse Brown can be seen on an Indy Star video speaking truth to power at a public meeting.
Watch as Mr. Brown resolutely leaps to his feet, bravely ripping the mask off his face to give the Chair of the meeting the righteous tongue-lashing she deserves. I admit the optics are a bit off-putting as Jesse Brown is white and the woman holding the gavel appears to be black.
There are some who would say, at the very least that the very shouty Mr. Brown was being disrespectful and that may certainly be the case, but is he racist? Certainly not. Mr. Brown, a devout and loyal member of the DSA and a self described Marxist is far above reproach. His wild, passionate outburst at that meeting only proves his fervent dedication to social justice. If you have a notion to accuse Jesse Brown of insensitivity or some absurdly similar right-wing claptrap, I suggest you rummage inside your own mental closet, past your filthy collection of MAGA hats and swastika armbands to the white robe and pointy hat that you wear as you cast spurious allegations at the spotless reputations of great liberals like Jesse Brown. Judge not lest ye be judged, you racist!
Case 3: Recently, on the platform once known as Twitter, now rebranded “X”, a failed mayoral candidate took offense to something I posted and he responded thusly:
This, certainly is a very rude and contemptuous comment, but is it racist? Of course not! I am Caucasian and a tiny bit Jewish… which proves my point; liberals are frequently rude, nasty and obnoxious to everyone, regardless of race, creed or color.
In conclusion, no sane or decent person can claim there is a racist bone in any liberal’s body. Anyone who asserts the possibility that a liberal can display even the tiniest amount of racial insensitivity is without a doubt a dyed-in-the-wool Trumpist, white-supremacist, Nazi, transphobic, anti-Semitic, Putin-loving… RACIST!!!
I was over by Riverside Park today by the house my grandparents live in from 1960-1999, really the only place I can say was my home since I moved so much. I realized that the neighborhood has become a largely Latino one. What struck me was that no one seems to complain when Latinos turn “traditionally” Black neighborhoods into their own but when White people do it is viewed as a negative. Again, subtle racism of differing standards, as if Black communities have a either more value or fragility than other hoods and must be preserved. Yet no one is clamoring to return Haughville to the Jews.
Ehhhh
Most of the racism I’ve experienced in my life if from liberals, mainly Black ones but most vocally white ones. It’s the subtle racism of low expectations. It’s the erasure of the individual and assuming a black racial collectivism that no other ethnic group is held to. White Social Justice warriors are the worse practitioners of this. Largely out of fear and guilt they buy into the stereotype that skin color determines destiny and should live by different standards. This was the most offensive part of the whole Library hiring debate. Almost no one would have opposed the same process has the acting director been a white male. But since she was a black woman, people made the claim that she should be subjected to a different hiring standard. That’s racism.
