Are Republicans Hoping a Bizarre, Marxist, Indianapolis City Council Candidate Wins in November?
Some Hoosier GOPers May Have More in Common With Democrat Jesse Brown Than You Think.
In previous posts, I documented the bizarre statements and antics of Democrat Party candidate for Indianapolis City Council District 13 Jesse Brown. In addition to proudly proclaiming that he is a Marxist, Mr. Brown also stated his support for the Covid mandate and lockdowns and that he preferred the Communist Chinese Party’s brutal Zero-Covid policy. Jesse Brown has also promoted the Satanic Temple and claimed the Indianapolis Police started the 2020 Downtown Indianapolis riots … more than enough to qualify Jesse Brown as a flamboyantly bizarre media star in the style of former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. (who I used to blog about).
You’d think the Indiana Republican Party and their allies in the conservative media would seize the opportunity Mr. Brown has given them to paint Indiana Democrats as the party of crackpots and extremists. Have they? ….nope. What could explain this deafening silence? Perhaps there is a convergence of interests that could possibly unite the establishment GOP with a LARPing, bobble-heading socialist, something elemental that would explain the silence…. and I think I’ve found that element… carbon.
Last week I asked Jesse Brown on X (formerly Twitter) what he thought about the organization called Carbon Neutral Indiana. Mr. Brown replied “I'm a member and consider the organization's leader, Daniel, a friend”
Daniel Poynter is the Founder and Executive Director of Carbon Neutral Indiana that seeks to “…help households measure and clean up their carbon footprints” and “We envision a future where it’s normal to be carbon neutral. People and organizations will take responsibility for, and clean up, their carbon trash just as they clean up their physical trash today”.
Poynter is involved with a similar group in Ohio.
Daniel Poynter is apparently also active with Extinction Rebellion, a group of annoying weirdos that disrupt traffic and glue themselves to paintings in museums, thus giving environmentalism a bad reputation (which may be the real purpose of Extinction Rebellion). XR gives off a strong scent of Astro-turf and is described in this article on the Winter Oak website as a “corporate scam”.
You would think no prominent self-respecting Republican Hoosier would associate with a self-described climate activist like Daniel Poynter, but you would be wrong. Daniel Poynter is the author of a book titled “Carbon Neutral Indiana, a Practical Guide to Climate Optimism”. The book has glowing testimonials from Mickey Maurer, Chairman of the Board of Indiana Business Journal Corporation, Greg Ballard, former Republican mayor of Indianapolis and Jim Merritt, former GOP Indiana State Senator.
Daniel Poynter can also be seen in this photo from X titled “Indiana Eco-Right Dream Team” standing next to Republican Congressman Bill Inglis and in the middle of the pack is the aforementioned Jim Merritt.
Bob Inglis’s organization is called RepublicEn that calls its movement “EcoRight”. Bob Inglis can be seen here in this 4 years-old You Tube video talking about his enthusiasm for a carbon tax:
What are we to deduce from this web of inter-connecting interests? Two important conclusions:
These groups are not like traditional environmental groups which sought a reduction in pollution through regulatory and voluntary actions. These new groups are barely disguised business promoters and lobbyists.
The Republicans who describe themselves as “Eco-Right” are neither ecologists or Right-Wing. Bob Inglis, for example endorsed Joe Biden.
What does this all add up to? I cannot say for sure. I do not make any allegations of wrongdoing or illegal conduct. However, I would suggest that a carbon tax bill would have a greater chance passing in the Indianapolis City Council if Jesse Brown was voting instead of his Libertarian opponent Libby Glass. It should also be noted that the Indy GOP chose not to run a candidate in the 13th District.
I don’t think a carbon tax would pass now, however I do think that could change if a “climate emergency” similar to the 2020 pandemic emergency was declared. Voluntary carbon credit payments could be made mandatory in the same way to address a declared “climate emergency” the same way previously voluntary health measures such as wearing masks and proof of injections were made mandatory beginning in 2020.
POSTSCRIPT: If you are not familiar with the shameful history of corporate capture of the environmental movement, I suggest reading Corey Morningstar’s website, The Wrong Kind of Green.
I'm a Marxist!!!!
A Groucho Marxist.
I don't want to join any club that would accept me as a member. And like Groucho said:
"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies."
